Walter: Hopefully, Rough Stuff Stays On The Field This Weekend
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The one thing we already know about the Bears game on Sunday is that half the players will win and be happy; half will lose and be unhappy. Sixty-six thousand fans in the stands will be happy or unhappy, depending on the score. And who knows how many thousands will have been drinking -- whatever the score.
I'm thinking happy or unhappy, OK, but look out for drunk. There's anger in America, hatred and unprovoked violence -- in Tucson last week; in Gardena, Calif. this week, where two teenagers were shot; in Brooklyn this week, where five teenagers were shot, and in Miami today, where two police officers were shot, one of them dead.
In Chicago and Green Bay all this week, there has been hype about Sunday, stories in the news about rivals and grudges, and Bears fans and Packers fans despising each other.
There is reason to be concerned about Sunday, good reason for the papers and TV to cool it so that after the game doesn't become a bigger story than playing it.
