Walker: 'It Was Time For Me To Go'
(WSCR) After nine years as the White Sox hitting coach, Greg Walker had reached his limit on the South Side.
Walker's relationship with Ozzie Guillen and Kenny Williams was touch-and-go at times and Walker, who is now the hitting coach for the Braves, said it was time for him to close that chapter of my life.
"I had quit being myself," Walker told The McNeil and Spiegel Show. "I had started coaching on my heels, just not being aggressive, worry about what people thought or their perceptions. In the past, I really didn't care. I just did what I thought was right. The situation over there just got me to be kind of defensive and not as positive. It had kind of beat me down a little bit. I needed a change. I thought that change was to get out of baseball for a year and just chill."

Walker admitted he stuck around the organization because of his love and respect for chairman Jerry Reinsdorf.
"I stayed a couple of years longer than I should have because of that," Walker said.
"We all had a bond and that's Jerry Reinsdorf. Why he cares about us as much as he does, I don't know. But he did. We all respected that. It worked for a little while. We won a World Series in Chicago. That's pretty special stuff. A lot of good stuff came out of it, it just kind of ran it's course. We ran our course."
