Walker In Pride Parade Sues City After Trip, Fall

CHICAGO (STMW) - A volunteer who claims she was injured when she tripped and fell while walking in this year's annual Gay Pride Parade is suing the City of Chicago and the parade's operator.

Melissa Reigle filed the suit Friday in Cook County Circuit Court against the city and PRIDEChicago, listed in the suit as the parade's operator.

Reigle, a volunteer participating in the June 27 parade, claims she was walking alongside a float in the 3600 block of North Halsted Avenue when a hole left uncovered in the street made her trip and fall, according to the suit.

She claims she was severely injured from the incident, and that the city should have fixed or covered the hole, especially since parade participants would be walking on it, the suit said.

City officials could not be reached for comment Friday night. A coordinator for PRIDEChicago said he had not yet seen the suit and could not immediately comment.

The two-count suit seeks at least $100,000 in damages.
