Wal-Mart Express Opens In River North
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A new Wal-Mart Express store opened in Chicago on Wednesday, this one on the North Side.
The opening of the River North store at Chicago and Franklin, near the Brown Line L tracks, was greeted by a few dozen protesters.
The group called for the resignation of Wal-Mart CEO Mike Duke over allegations the company bribed officials in Mexico to open new stores there.
The protesters, including some Wal-Mart workers, also demanded better pay and benefits than Wal-Mart currently offers.
Wal-Mart Express stores are much smaller than typical Wal-Marts and focus more on fresh groceries and convenience items.
The River North store employs about 50 people and is 16,000 square feet, according to the Chicago Tribune.
It is the third Express store to open in the city.
