Wacker Drive Rebuild Due To Finish In December
CHICAGO (CBS) -- There's good news for downtown Chicago drivers: The lengthy Wacker Drive reconstruction project is almost finished.
State and city transportation officials today showed off some of the $303 million in improvements to the iconic roadway.
The upgrades include wider lanes, more lighting and extra room for pedestrians.
Officials say the project will now be done in December.
Sections of the roadway were built in 1926. Construction crews finished one phase of reconstruction of Wacker Drive in 2002. This second phase began in 2010.
