Volunteers To Conduct New Searches For Man Missing For 6 Years
WEST CHICAGO, Ill. (CBS) -- More than six years have passed since a west suburban businessman and blues guitarist disappeared without a trace. Now, renewed searches are taking place.
John Spira went missing under suspicious circumstances on Feb. 23, 2007. The last person known to have seen him alive was his business partner, Dave Stubben, at their Universal Cable Construction business, 2N225 County Farm Rd., in unincorporated West Chicago.
The first search will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday in the woods near the Center Ice hockey rink, 1N450 Highland Av., in Glen Ellyn. There will be a second fanning out into the woods behind St. Francis School, 2130 W. Roosevelt Rd., in Wheaton. A third search is expected Sunday, but family members writing on the "Missing John Spira" Facebook page indicated that the location will not be announced until Saturday.
"I have my reasons for doing this at this location but cannot say (why)," a family member wrote about the Saturday search, which is expected to be made difficult by heat, humidity and mosquitoes.
DuPage County Sheriff's Police spokesperson Dawn Domrose said that deputies will assist in the searches, organized by Spira's sister, Stephanie McNeil. Anyone having information that could assist investigators are asked to contact the sheriff's office.
