Virtual Camping Trip Coming For Kids With Autism
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Children with autism can experience something new this winter – camping.
But as WBBM Newsradio 780's Michele Fiore reports, they won't have to bring snow pants or canteens. They will actually be taking a virtual camping trip, put together by the Chicago Children's Theatre Company.

As Dawn Akelis with Chicago Children's Theatre Company explains, a lot goes in to a virtual camping trip.
"We have projectors, and rolling grass, and puppets, and we literally take them camping in one room, and the projections change, and we bring all sorts of bug puppets and bird puppets out, and a campfire. We sit around the campfire and sing songs," Akelis said.
Jay in the marketing department says the show is geared toward children 10 and under and the actors really customize it.
"The parents give the theatre some information in advance about what their children's likes and dislikes and barriers for tolerance are, so that it's very customized for them," he said.
The show is called "The Red Kite Roundup." It opens Tuesday at the choral rehearsal room at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park.
