Video Shows Man Gunned Down Walking To Work

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A grandfather, who on Tuesday night was simply making his way to a job he held for more than 30 years, never made it.

Surveillance video shows Michael Sullivan heading down a sidewalk at 4200 W. Lake Street near the CTA Green Line, CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports.

A car drives down the street next to him, and the 53-year-old grandfather looks over his shoulder as the car approaches.

Moments later, Sullivan is shot to death.

Police say the motive appears to be robbery.

Sullivan is the father of two adult daughters, and he recently became a grandfather for the second time.

"I want my dad back," said Sullivan's daughter, Latoya Griffin. "There's nothing else I can say. It hurts. It hurts so bad!"

"He was going to work. He didn't hurt nobody. All he wanted to do was go to work and help take care of my grandma."

Sullivan's family says he went to work each day at a UPS facility as a package sorter.

Last night when he was gunned down, he was on his way to do his regular overnight shift.

"If anyone saw or heard anything, please call the police," said brother, Frederick Sullivan.

"Call your alderman, anybody, just let someone know. Please from the bottom of my heart. Please. We lost a good one today."

Michael Sullivan had worked for UPS for 32 years. He had planned to retire next month, Frederick Sullivan said.
