VIDEO: Gunman Robs Convenience Store, Flees With $1,000
(CBS) -- Workers at a convenience store in northwest Indiana were terrified when they came face to face with an armed gunman.
The store owner is sharing video of the encounter in hopes of alerting the public.
It happened Wednesday at the MCR Short Stop on Central Avenue and Hamstrom Road in Portage, Ind.
Sergio Robles wasn't there, but two of his clerks were behind the counter, with their hands thrown up in fear when a hooded gunman demanded money from the register.
The suspect walked through the front door, aimed a handgun at the cashiers, and grabbed close to $1,000 before fleeing.
"Very chilling. I mean especially when he pulls out the gun," Robles says.
He believes the guy jumped in a car and headed west on Central Avenue, possibly right past the Portage Police Department about a mile down the street.
You can see the clerk calling for help. The robber covered his so face well police had little to go on.
Neither clerk was hurt but neither has been back to work since it all happened. The owner says they acted just as they've been taught – not to resist.
They hope the right person with the right info calls police.
