Video: Elk Grove Completes Incredible Hail Mary
(CBS) A last-second play has put the Elk Grove's high school football team in the national spotlight, thanks to an unbelievable Hail Mary play.
Elk Grove had the ball on their own 48-yard line, trailing Rolling Meadows 33-26 with 9.5 seconds to play.
That's when quarterback Adam O'Malley scrambled and launched a Hail Mary down the field. The ball was tipped and somehow ended up in the hands of receiver Mike Bischoff.
Bischoff caught the ball on the 16-yard line and and barreled through defenders into the end zone.
The craziness doesn't end there, though. After the touchdown, Elk Grove elected to simply kick the PAT to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Their kick was blocked, but officials flagged Rolling Meadows for having a 12th player leave the field through the end zone, instead of the sidelines.
The penalty moved the ball to the 1 1/2 yard line, where Elk Grove successfully went for two, winning the ball game.
