Viciedo Quietly Recruiting Cepedes, Soler
(CBS) Dayan Viciedo may have found a new unofficial role within the White Sox organization.
According to a report from the Chicago Tribune, Viciedo admitted Tuesday to trying to sell highly sought Cuban outfielders Yoenis Cepedes and Jorge Soler on the merits of playing for the White Sox.
The two Cuban defectors are currently in the Dominican Republican waiting on approval from Major League Baseball to sign contracts.
"I have reached out to both camps and put in a good word and told them how great the organization is and how much of great fit it would be if they joined us," Viciedo said on a conference call.
"No phone numbers were given to me or any (orders) from the organization for me to reach out. This was something about me reaching out to my fellow Cubans and wishing the best for them. Right now they are not signed and I can't tell them which way to go, but I can give them my advice, especially having come in a similar situation."
