After getting hit by a pitch late, Thursday Dayan Viciedo broke his thumb. The good news is he may not need surgery for the injury.

Dayan Viciedo of the Chicago White Sox says he doesn't think he'll need surgery for his broken right thumb.

Viciedo was hit by a pitch Thursday and is expected to miss up to four weeks.

Viciedo said Friday that he's still in pain and is waiting for test results.

The Cuban-born Viciedo is 10 for 23 this spring. He made the move from third base to right field in the offseason.
