Veteran Operatives Sign In With Moseley Braun

CHICAGO (AP) - Former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun has recruited a pair of veteran political operatives with connections to Richard Daley to her bid to be Chicago's next mayor.

Victor Reyes, a longtime supporter of the current mayor and head of the Hispanic Democratic Organization, says he is joining Braun's campaign because he believes she has the best chance to build the coalition it will take to win.

Mike Noonan, who helped elect Lisa Madigan attorney general, will serve as Braun's campaign manager. He tells the Chicago Sun-Times Braun is showing she has the deepest and broadest support among African-American candidates.

Ald. Freddrenna Lyle says Braun's choices may hurt her in some quarters because of Reyes and Noonan's close association to those currently in power.

Spokeswoman Renee Ferguson says Braun is determined to "reach out to all communities."
