Vernon Hills Seeks To Inspect Former Cat Hoarder's House

VERNON HILLS, Ill. (CBS) -- The Village of Vernon Hills was to go to court Monday to get permission to inspect the home of a former animal hoarder.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Nancy Harty reports, the house in the 0-99 block of Brook Hill Lane in the Stone Fence Farms subdivision had to undergo restoration after being declared uninhabitable in 2004.

The Daily Herald reports back then, animal control workers removed roughly 130 cats, almost half of which were euthanized. The woman who owned the cats still lives in the house.

But neighbors began to complain again two years ago about smells of cat urine and feces again, the newspaper reported.

The owner, Lisa Sliwa, says she is in compliance with a rule that she cannot own more than three animals, and said she is being harassed, the Daily Herald reported.

The village is looking to inspect the home, and possibly level fines, the newspaper reported.
