Vandals Set Fire To Artificial Turf At North Central College
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- Authorities in west suburban Naperville were offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about who set fire to the artificial turf at North Central College's football field last weekend.
Around 11 p.m. Saturday, someone started a fire in the end zone of the North Central foorball stadium, burning the letters "C" and "L" in the word "CARDINALS," causing $10,000 worth of damage, police said.
"It's a brand new field. We just finished installing this field over the summer. All of our student athletes were excited to be here using the field," school spokesman Jim Godo said. "So it made us angry that someone would want to vandalize such a beautiful facility like this that, frankly, is a cornerstone of the community."
North Central College junior Jen Wong said,"I am a little disappointed, just because school pride is everything to us."
Police said a flare might have been used to set the fire.
Anyone with information on the arson should call Naperville Police Det. Lee at (630) 305-5271 or email leer@naperville.il.us.
