Van Slams Into Display Window Bloomingdale's Building On Mag Mile

CHICAGO (CBS) -- No one was hurt Friday morning when a van smashed through the window of the Max Mara shop on the ground floor of the 900 N. Michigan Ave. skyscraper Friday morning.
The van smashed through the display window of the Max Mara store the tower, known colloquially as the Bloomingdale's Building, around 9 a.m. Friday.
As WBBM Newsradio's Brandis Friedman reports, display windows at stores in the 900 North Michigan Shops mall are normally full of mannequins and luxury goods. But on Friday morning, the window at the Max Mara store had a van protruding from it.
A representative for the shops, Ryan Beshel, says the driver of the silver Econoline 250 van was heading east on nearby Delaware Place when he lost control of brakes.
"Rather than slamming into cars that were coming in traffic on Michigan Avenue, he made a pretty courageous move and just turned left into the window, so nobody was hurt," Beshel said.
A tourist was waiting at the intersection when it happened.
"I'm waiting for the traffic light. We heard a loud bang and turned around, and then there was the car that went into the window," said Rick Nielanver, who is visiting from the Netherlands.
The Max Mara shop into which the van crashed is on the corner of the building. Beshel says the shop has only been open in that location for a month.
The only casualties were a few mannequins.
