Urlacher Sibling Running For Mayor Of North Suburban Village
(CBS) -- The sibling of a very famous Bear is trying to step out of his big brother's shadow.
Casey Urlacher, the 33-year-old younger brother of former Bears star Brian Urlacher, is running for Mayor of Mettawa -- a tiny, affluent village north of Chicago.
"One of the things I've gone by is my honesty and integrity," Casey Urlacher, who bears a strong resemblance to his athlete brother, tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards. "I've lived a pretty simple and quiet life for the most part, without Brian in there."
But he's also been by Brian's side since the day his big brother was drafted by the Bears in 2000.
As for the mayor's race, "I'm very in-tune to what's going on in this village and I care about it deeply," Casey Urlacher says.
He has the support of the out-going mayor. His opponent, village trustee Jeff Clark, has the endorsement of the Daily Herald.
"I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Casey Urlacher," says Clark, who's running on a platform of preservation.
But don't let that fool you. It's a barn-burner, and the last election had a single-digit victor, though there are only some 300 residents.
But here in Mettawa – there's a bit of a role reversal right now for the Urlachers.
"A guy walked up to (Brian) on Saturday and said, 'Best of luck, you have to win this election,'" Casey Urlacher says.
His brother's response: "I'm not running this election. It's my brother -- he's over there."
Casey Urlacher thinks his brother, who did not reach a deal with the Chicago Bears to play this season, will land with another team.
Election day is April 9.
