Urlacher: Cutler 'Makes This Team Go'
(K-Hits) The joy of the Bears' 31-20 win over the Chargers didn't last long.
Shortly after the game, reports began to surface that quarterback Jay Cutler had broken his thumb on his throwing hand. Now, it appears Cutler will be lost for most of the regular season, leaving back up quarterback Caleb Hanie as the Bears' new starter.
"Caleb is going to do a good job for us, but Cutler's the man," Brian Urlacher told K-Hit's Eddie and Jobo on Monday. "He makes the team go. He's our leader. He breaks us down before every game. He's the guy we look to when we need something. People don't realize that because he's got this perception of not being a great leader. They're totally wrong. He's the guy that makes this team go."
Urlacher believes the team can still win but will need increased production from the running game and defense to continue their five-game winning streak.
"It's sad for him," Urlacher said. "More importantly, he's upset about it. He's having a great season, winning a bunch of games for us, then something like that happens. We're going to have to play better on defense. Caleb will do a good job for us. He came in a couple games last year and did a good job."
