Univ. Of Illinois Gives Penn State Settlement Money To 4 Charities
(CBS) -- The University of Illinois has received its part of a settlement from the fallout from the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, and is passing on the money to four agencies that help families deal with the trauma of child abuse.
WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports the University of Illinois received $188,000 as part of a legal settlement between the Big Ten Conference and Penn State, over the child sex abuse scandal involving former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.
Penn State forfeited its $2.3 million share of conference bowl revenue from last season. That money was instead divided among all 12 schools in the conference – including Penn State – to be used for charities that focus on protecting children from abuse.
The United Way of Champaign County helped distribute Illinois' $188,000 to four agencies: the Children's Advocacy Center of Champaign County; the Court Appointed Special Advocate program; Crisis Nursery; and Rape Advocacy, Counseling and Education Services.
