United Airlines Soaring Into Wrigley Field
CHICAGO (STMW) - It may not be the new "United Center," but it will be hard for anyone watching Chicago Cubs games at Wrigley Field for the next three years to escape the "friendly skies" in and around the North Side park.
As part of a partnership between the Cubs and United Airlines announced Monday, the Stadium Club at Wrigley Field will be re-named The United Club, and the Chicago-based airline will have a rooftop sign on Waveland Avenue beyond the left field wall.
The three-year exclusive agreement makes United the official airline of the Cubs and Wrigley Field. Starting with the 2011 season, United will be the only airline used by the Cubs, a release from the team said.
As a part of the extended partnership, the Cubs will rebrand Wrigley Field's Stadium Club as the United Club. The club is a pre- and post-game gathering place on the main concourse along the first base line.
"The Cubs have relied on United to fly our team across the country for years," Wally Hayward, team spokesman, said. "We're pleased to extend our partnership ..."
The price of the new agreement was not disclosed.
