Union Pacific Signal Problems Lead To Some Metra Delays
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Systemwide signal problems on the Union Pacific railroad on Tuesday morning led to a handful of Metra trains being delayed or stopped while the issue was fixed.
According to Metra, Union Pacific experienced a systemwide computer-signalling problem, which affected Metra trains which run on UP-controlled tracks.
By about 9:10 a.m., the computer signal issue had been fixed and trains were on the move and getting back to their normal schedules again, a Metra spokesman said.
On the Union Pacific/North line, inbound trains No. 324 and No. 326, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:41 a.m. and 8:49 a.m., were operating between 23 and 28 minutes behind schedule, according to a Metra rider alert. Train No. 328, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 9:08 a.m., is operating 9 to 12 minutes behind schedule.
On the Union Pacific/Northwest line, inbound train No. 628, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:36 a.m., was moving, but approximately 23 to 25 minutes late. Train No. 630, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:41 a.m., was also moving, between 20 to 25 minutes late. Trains No. 632 and 634, scheduled to arrive downtown at 8:52 a.m. and 8:55 a.m., were about 15 to 20 minutes late.
On the Milwaukee District/North line, train No. 2122, scheduled to arrive downtown at 8:47 a.m., was on the move but 24 minutes late, according to Metra. Milwaukee District/North inbound train No. 2124, scheduled to arrive downtown at 8:56 a.m., was moving about 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule, because of signal problems between Mayfair and Chicago.
