Uncle Flees After Fatally Hitting Toddler With Car, Police Say
AURORA, Ill. (STMW) -- Police are looking for the motorist who fatally backed over his 15-month-old nephew Saturday afternoon in west suburban Aurora, police said.
Police responded about 4:45 p.m. to a home in the 400 block of Hinman Street in Aurora and found a boy lying in the driveway of the home with "massive injuries," according to a statement from Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli.
"The paramedics were performing CPR on the little boy, and they just picked him up and took him in the ambulance – it didn't look good," witness David Hackerson told CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot.
Paramedics took the child was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m., Ferrelli said. Authories identified the fatally injured boy as Jared Pichardo.
The boy's uncle -- identified as 21-year-old Rodolfo Pichardo -- backed a 2002 Ford Explorer sport-utility vehicle out of the driveway and ran over the toddler, Ferrelli said. The man stopped for a short time, then re-entered the vehicle and fled the scene.
The SUV was last seen westbound on Fourth Avenue in Aurora, Ferrelli said. It has a possible license plate of A457815.
The uncle is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s, Ferrelli said. He is 5-feet-6, 170 pounds with a beard. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue shorts.
Anyone with sees the SUV should call 911 immediately, police said.
