It will be a chance for horse for horse enthusiasts to buy high-quality animals in Dixon to recoup some of the $53 million that former comptroller Rita Crundwell is alleged to have pilfered over the past 22 years, the Tribune reports.
Crundwell, 59, of Dixon, had served as the town's comptroller since 1983 and the indictment charges she used millions to support her RC Quarter Horse company.
The government seeks forfeiture of $53 million as well as 311 quarter horses, three houses, a horse farm in Dixon, a dozen trucks, a 67 Chevy Corvette and about $224,000 in cash.
The horses have been in the care of Crundwell's employees since she was arrested on April 17, the Tribune reported. Most of the horses are on Crundwell's Dixon properties, but some are scattered throughout the country, the Tribune reported.
