U Of Chicago Professors To Receive India's 3rd Highest Civilian Award
(STMW) -- Pranab Mukkerjee, India's thirteenth president, will confer the Padma Bhushan Award to two University of Chicago professors at a ceremony in Rajasthan, India this spring.
Professors Susan Rudolph and Lloyd Rudolph were named the recipients in an announcement Saturday by the university.
The Padma Bhushan Award award is regarded as India's third-highest civilian honor, according to a release issued by U of C. It is awarded to recognize distinguished service of a high order to India in any field, the release said.
The Rudolphs joined the University of Chicago's Department of Political Science in 1964. Susanne Rudolph studies comparative politics with a special interest in the political economy and political sociology of South Asia, according to the release. Lloyd Rudolph served as Chair of the Committee on International Relations and the Master of Arts Program in Social Sciences and is chair of concentrations in political science, public policy, international studies and south Asian studies.
The Rudolphs now divide their time between Kensington, California; Barnard, Vermont; and Jaipur, Rajasthan in India, according to the release.
The University of Chicago will open a new academic center in Delhi, India in March 2014. The Center in Delhi will be a home for research and education for University of Chicago faculty, graduate students and undergraduates working in India and throughout South Asia, as well as Indian researchers and students representing institutions and scholars from around the world.
