U Of C, Northwestern Make List Of Most Expensive College Programs
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The University of Chicago and Northwestern University are among the country's most expensive places for a college education.
As WBBM Newsradio's Kris Kridel reports, the U of C ranks second on the Forbes Magazine list of the most expensive U.S. colleges. With undergraduate tuition at $42,041, the total cost per year of attending the U of C is $57,590, factoring in room and board, books and transportation.

By comparison, during the 1998-1999 school year, tuition at the U of C with room and board was about $32,000 per year.
The magazine calls the U of C "Brainiac Central on Lake Michigan," and points out that despite the high price tag, university graduates go on to the nation's best professional schools.
Northwestern University comes in at No. 9, with a tuition of $40,223, and a total cost of $56,406.
But the most expensive college on the list is Mayor Rahm Emanuel's alma mater, Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y., which has a total cost of $58,334 per year. In total, it cost $240,000 four a four-year college education at Sarah Lawrence.
