Man, 12-Year-Old Son, Wounded In South Side Shooting
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 38-year-old man and his 12-year-old son were wounded in a shooting Saturday morning in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 9:39 a.m. in the 5300 block of South Prairie Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The two victims were getting out of a vehicle at the rear of a home in that block when someone began shooting, and they were struck by gunfire, Mirabelli said.
The two are a 38-year-old father and his 12-year-old son, Mirabelli said. The man was struck in the right foot and the boy was struck in the right thigh by gunfire, Mirabelli said.
The man drove himself and the boy to Provident Hospital of Cook County, Mirabelli said. The younger victim was reportedly going to be transferred to Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago Hospitals, according to unconfirmed dispatch reports. The two were both listed in good condition with non life-threatening injuries, Mirabelli said.
No one was in custody early Saturday afternoon.
