Two Rescued From Car Fire Following Ike Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were rescued from a car that caught fire after it went through a fence and struck a tree on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) Sunday morning.
The crash happened about 6:40 a.m. on the outbound Eisenhower Expressway just west of Central Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs.
The driver of the Buick Park Avenue, a 29-year-old woman, lost control of the car for an unknown reason and the car left the road, went down a slope on the right side of the expressway, went through a fence, then crashed into a tree, Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sgt. Jason LoCoco said.
The impact of the crash caused the car to break into two separate pieces and the engine compartment caught fire, he said.
Two of the state troopers responding to the scene extricated the driver and a 50-year-old man who was the only other person in the car, and Chicago Fire Department personnel put out the fire, LoCoco said.
No other cars were involved in the crash, the master sergeant said.
Both were taken in serious condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Fire Media Affairs said.
The troopers who took the two out of the car were not injured, LoCoco said.
