Man Hospitalized, Another Injured, After Being Pulled From Lake

CHICAGO (CBS) - Fire paramedics took two men to the hospital after they were rescued from Lake Michigan at North Avenue Beach Saturday afternoon.
At about 2:20 p.m. two ambulances were sent to North Avenue Beach for two men that had been pulled from the water, according to Fire Media Affairs. When the paramedics arrived, bystanders were performing CPR on the victims.
Sources say a 19-year-old was having trouble in the water when another person, 20, jumped in to help.
Witness Adrian Lozano had been jogging nearby. He also jumped into the incredibly choppy water.
"Three of us actually jumped into the water. One of them actually grabbed the boy. When I went down, I couldn't find him," he told CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot.
The rescuers brought the teen to dry land by pulling him up on a ladder on the breakwater. A female doctor who happened to be at the beach worked to resuscitate to teen until paramedics arrived.
"He started breathing again, coughed up water," Lozano said.
The 19-year-old was listed in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The other man, who reportedly had a leg injury, was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
