Two People Shot At Apartment Complex In Unincorporated Des Plaines
CHICAGO (CBS) -- SWAT teams surrounded a northwest suburban apartment building overnight, after two people were found shot in the parking lot.
The first call of two people shot at the Heritage Village Apartments, in the 1000 block of Linda Lane in unincorporated Des Plaines, came in Tuesday night at 9:19 p.m., according to Cook County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari.
"I heard gun shots, and I'm like, 'That sounds so close,'" said neighbor Angelica Nevarez.
It was close. Just upstairs from Nevarez's apartment, a bullet pierced the window of another unit.
David Drdla, District Chief with the North Maine Fire Protection District said a man and woman were both found in the parking lot with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.
They were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, there was a report of an armed offender possibly barricaded inside one of the apartments, but a Hostage Barricade and Terrorist team found no one inside.
The sheriff's office said an investigation is ongoing, including efforts to locate the shooter.
Kirill Kapelson said he hears gunfire at the apartment complex "every now and then."
"There's not much we can do, unfortunately, until we move out of here," he said.
