Two Men Shot In Wicker Park
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were shot after two groups of people started fighting late Friday in Wicker Park.
The men were in the park in the 1400 block of North Damen Avenue when they were shot about 11:45 p.m., police said.
A 35-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. A 29-year-old man was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County with gunshot wounds to the right arm and stomach.
Mike Payett, who has lived across the street from the park for 24 years, said the shooting happened after two groups of six or seven people each started fighting in the park.
The fight spilled out onto nearby Schiller Street, then went back into the park where the men were shot, Payett said. He said he heard between six and 10 gunshots.
Area North detectives are investigating.
