Two Men Get 120 Years For 2006 Rape, Robbery Of Teen Girls
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men convicted of the 2006 armed robbery and rape of two teenage girls in west suburban Maywood have each been sentenced to 120 years in prison, while a third suspect awaits trial.
Cortez Lyons, 25, and Timothy Moore, 26, were charged with armed robbery and aggravated criminal sexual assault for the attack on three teens in a Maywood alley in 2006. They were convicted by a Cook County jury in March, and sentenced by Cook County Judge Paula Daleo to 120-year prison terms, a statement from the Cook County State's Attorney's office said.
According to prosecutors, Lyons approached two of the victims while they sat in a car outside a gas station near 5th Avenue in Maywood and offered to sell them marijuana. After the third victim returned to the car, the three were instructed to drive down a one-way alley behind the building.
When they arrived in the alley, Lyons produced a handgun and robbed all three victims. Moore and the third defendant, Christopher Pittman, then arrived at the scene armed with handguns, according to prosecutors.
After searching the car and the victim's purses, Moore and Lyons ordered the female victims to perform oral sex on them at gunpoint, while the male teen was forced to watch from the backseat. Lyons and Moore then raped both girls, an assault which continued until Maywood police officers arrived, according to prosecutors.
The victims positively identified the defendants after detectives showed them a video surveillance tape from the gas station. Pittman was arrested in June 2007, and that arrest led to the arrests of Lyons and Moore later that month.
Cook County Judge Paula Daleo sentenced Lyons and Moore to the 120 year prison terms during a court hearing Tuesday evening at the Maywood Courthouse.
Pittman's trial is pending, according to prosecutors.
