COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (STMW) -- Two young people were killed and another three injured when the SUV they were in -- which state police say was traveling at a very high speed -- left the road and rolled over on I-57 in the south suburbs Sunday morning.
The accident happened just before 5 a.m. on northbound I-57 at approximately 186th Street, an Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper said. The crash occurred near Country Club Hills.
The victims were all between 16 and 19 years old, the trooper said. The Mazda SUV they were in "was traveling at a very high rate of speed" when it left the roadway and rolled over, according to the trooper.
Two of the victims were killed, state police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. The two who were killed were the driver and a front seat passenger, a state police master sergeant said.
No additional information on the victims was immediately available Sunday afternoon.
Illinois State Police continue Sunday afternoon to investigate the crash, so it was undetermined as to whether alcohol was a factor, the trooper said.
