Two, Including Cop, Injured In Extra-Alarm Fire On West Side
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Chicago Police Officer and another man were injured early Friday in an extra alarm fire at an apartment building in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
The fire began about 3:40 a.m. in a fourth floor apartment of a building in the 2900 block of West Harrison Street, according to Fire Media Affairs.
A 60-year-old man was smoking while using medical oxygen and his bedding caught fire, said Fire Media Affairs Larry Langford. He attempted to extinguish the fire with water from his bathroom but was unsuccessful.
He suffered smoke inhalation and was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Lanford said.
A 31-year-old Harrison District police officer who helped the man suffered minor smoke inhalation, and was taken in good condition to Rush University Medical Center, Fire Media Affairs said.
The fire was extinguished about 4 a.m., Fire Media Affairs said. The residents of the building were allowed to return to the apartments.
