Woman, Child Hospitalized After Car Plunges Into Lagoon

CHICAGO (STMW) - A woman and a child are hospitalized in good condition after the vehicle they were in plunged into a lagoon near the Museum of Science and Industry Saturday morning in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the South Side.
The two, who are possibly mother and child, were inside vehicle that accidentally went into the lagoon at 59th and Cornell about 7:30 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
The two, of unidentified ages, appeared to be in good condition and were taken to a hospital as a precaution, said Perez.
When paramedics got there, they found two people who had were already out of the water, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.
The victims were examined on the scene and at first they declined to be taken to a hospital, but they then changed their minds and were both taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, Rosado said.
Perez did not know what road they were travelling on when wreck occurred, or how far into the water the vehicle had submerged.
The vehicle had to be towed out of the water, Perez said.
Police Marine Unit Officer James Sink said they had units which also went to the scene.
