Two Drivers Charged With DUI In I-55 Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Both drivers involved in a crash early Saturday morning on the Stevenson Expressway have been charged with DUI.
It's rare for both drivers in an accident to be charged with DUI. Illinois State Police tell CBS one-half of that duo, a female driver, is in stable condition.
Troopers tell CBS 2's Courtney Gousman 21 year-old Megan Bargardo was behind the wheel of a grey Mercury Sable stalled in the middle of the inbound Stevenson near Loomis.
Around midnight, investigators say the car was rear-ended by a black 2008 Scion. Troopers say 24 year-old Anthony Hornburg was driving that Scion.
Both Hornburg and Bargardo are now charged with driving under the influence. A 24-year-old passenger from Bagardo's vehicle was also at Stroger in serious condition.
The accident tied-up traffic on I-55 for nearly four hours as cars traffic was reduced to one lane.
A total of four passengers were riding in both cars with these alleged drunk drivers.
Troopers tell CBS 2's Courtney Gousman they're still not sure why that Mercury was stalled in the middle of the expressway.
