Two Dead, Five Injured In Series Of South Side Shootings
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two men were killed and five others were wounded in at least four separate shootings in Chicago.
The two men were fatally shot in an apparent drive-by in the Back of the Yards neighborhood in the 5300 block of South Hoyne early Thursday evening.
Someone inside a passing white SUV is believed to have opened fire on the pair, police said.
One man was shot in the head and was dead on the scene, police said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified him as 20-year-old William S. Herron-Junius, of the 6900 block of South Lowe Avenue.
A second man, 20, was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs said.
Lamont Matticx of the 2100 block of West 54th Place died at the hospital at 5:38 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The other shootings occurred on the South Side during the night, one of the five victims is in critical, the others in stable condition.
There's no word of any arrests.
