Two Critically Injured In South Suburban Crash
ALSIP (STMW) -- Two people were critically injured Saturday morning when the car they were in struck a semi in south suburban Alsip.
About 6 a.m., a Ford Taurus struck the rear of a semi-tractor trailer in the southbound lanes of Cicero Avenue at 128th Street and was trapped under the trailer, a release from Alsip police said.
The driver of the Taurus, Christopher Dellutri, 32, of Chicago, and his passenger, Coleen Palermo, 37, of Oak Forest, were extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the release said. Both were listed in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.
The McAllen, Texas driver of the semi was not injured in the crash. He told police that he had just begun a left turn as he felt the Taurus strike his trailer. Dellutri and Palermo could not be interviewed at the time because of their injuries.
Alsip police continue to investigate the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash. They note that alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor.
