Two Critically Injured In Far South Side Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were critically injured when a speeding car went through a red light and set off a chain reaction crash on the Far South Side Sunday morning.
The crash occurred at 106th Street and Ewing Avenue about 7:30 a.m.
Witnesses told police a 4-door, 1992 Oldsmobile Sierra was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Ewing Avenue when it collided with a Dodge Durango that was headed east on 106th Street, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
"That set off a chain reaction that included a Cadillac CTS and a Chevrolet Malibu," Mirabelli said.
Two people were taken in serious to critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Fire Media. One of them was the driver of the Oldsmobile, Mirabelli said.
The driver of the Cadillac was treated on the scene and refused further medical treatment and the driver and passenger who were in the Malibu refused medical atttention at the scene, Mirabelli said.
As a result of the street blockage and to allow police to conduct their investigation, the CTA rerouted the No. 30 South Chicago buses in both directions. No. 30 buses were back to their normal routes by about 10:25 a.m., according to the CTA.
Police were investigating the crash and no citations or charges had been issued as of about 10:30 a.m.
