Two Crashes, One Involving A Cook County Sheriff's Deputy, Close Interstate 80
CHICAGO (CBS)-- Five vehicles involved in two separate crashes shut down westbound I-80 near LaGrange Road during the Monday morning rush hour, police said.
Illinois State Police are still investigating the causes of the accidents that sent three people — including a Cook County sheriff's deputy — to Silver Cross Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Sergeant Scott Angus said.
The first incident occurred at 7:37 a.m. when a single vehicle struck the concrete center median.
At 7:44 a.m. four other vehicles collided near the same location, including the deputy's squad car.
Police are not sure if the two are related, but Angus said it is possible the drivers in the second accident were slowing down when they saw the first accident.
All vehicles were towed from the scene and the expressway was reopened at 9 a.m.
