Two Chicago Cops At Center Of Teen-Exploitation Investigation: Source
(CBS) -- First it was suspicion of pornography – then prostitution. Now two Chicago police officers are under investigation for their alleged involvement.
CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports.
A source close to this matter confirms the officers are under investigation for an alleged connection to the prostitution of a teen-aged girl.
The officers in question are veterans, according to a source, with both having been with the Chicago Police Department for more than a decade. Now, they are not only being investigated by the department's internal affairs division but by federal authorities, too.
The source tells CBS 2 it started when supervisors were alerted to the possibility the two officers were engaged in pornography. Internal Affairs was notified, began its investigation and found the officers might also be connected to the sex trafficking of a girl, believed to be 14 years old.
Internal Affairs then notified federal authorities, who launched their own investigation, the source tells CBS 2.
A spokesperson for Police Supt. Garry McCarthy would not talk about the investigation, except to confirm the officers have been stripped of their police powers and placed on paid desk duty.
The source says at least one victim is involved, indicating there may be more. It's still unclear if more cops may be involved.
An FBI spokesperson declined comment on whether there are any federal investigations.
