Two Charged After Firing Guns Into Air In Elgin
ELGIN, Ill. (STMW) -- Two men were charged Saturday night after they shot off more than 80 rounds of ammunition to ring in the New Year in northwest suburban Elgin.
Officers responded to the 600 block of Grace Street shortly after midnight and found two men shooting handguns and a shotgun into the air, according to Elgin spokeswoman Sue Olafson.
The me barricaded themselves in the home when the officers arrived, but later surrendered, Olafson said.
No one was injured, according to Olafson.
Marcus M. James, 30, of the 1000 block of Chovan Dr. in Joliet, and Charles Steward, 38, of the 7000 block of Churchill Dr. in Hanover Park, were each charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice, according to Olafson.
Both are scheduled to appear in Kane County bond court Monday morning.
Police are also investigating a separate incident about reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of Bent Tree Court, according to Olafson. A stray round of ammunition came through a skylight of a home in that block and landed in a baby's crib.
No one was injured in the incident, Olfason said.
