Two Branches Of Same Bank Robbed Within Minutes
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two branches of the same bank in the West Town area were robbed, apparently by the same person, just minutes apart Friday morning.
The first robbery happened at 9:14 a.m. at the North Community Bank branch at 1555 N. Damen Ave., according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak. The robber, who did not have a weapon, announced the robbery and gave a note to a teller, she said.
About 9:22 a.m., a man matching the same description -- a short, black man in his 20s wearing dark clothing -- robbed the North Community Bank branch at 1600 W. Chicago Ave. in the same way, Kubiak said. The branches are located about 11/2 miles from each other.
No one was injured in either robbery.
There have been at least three bank robberies in the city this year. Thursday, a woman robbed one bank branch on the West Side after she attempted to rob a different bank on the Northwest Side.
There were at least 114 bank robberies in the Chicago area in 2011, down from 2010's 181 bank robberies, according to the FBI.
