Twins Radio Analyst Says Ozzie Can Be 'Distracting'

CHICAGO (WSCR) White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and Twins manager Ron Gardenhire have always had a ton of respect for each other, but they are hardly alike.

But one thing they both do is take the heat off their players, even if they do it in different ways. Guillen's way often includes taking away the spotlight with rants and outlandish statements. It's been very effective in terms of taking the spotlight off his players when they are struggling, but is it distracting?

Former Twins player and current radio analyst Dan Gladden thinks so.

"What Ozzie does well is he deflects the critcism from the players and I think every good manager does that," Gladden told The Danny Mac Show on 670 The Score Wednesday. "(Gardenhire) does that, and I think Guillen does that. That's why he'll have those outbursts and some embarrassing moments at times.  He's deflecting the criticism from the players and it's on him.

"At the same time, it's almost like enough is enough, it gets old, we've heard this, we've seen this before.  Keeping guys loose in the clubhouse, let the players dictate and decide what kind of a clubhouse they want. It shouldn't be decided by the manager.  He's won a World Series, you can't take that away from him, but I think it'd be distracting as a player."
