Twins' Morneau Recovering From Concussion
FORT MYERS, Fla. (CBS) -- The Minnesota Twins' Justin Morneau has recovered from his concussion, but officials don't know if he'll be ready for opening day.
Morneau was removed for the last three months of last season due to a concussion. The All-Star first baseman was pulled right away after his injury, but USAToday reports eight months later, there's no way of knowing whether he'll be ready for opening day, nor whether he'll return to his old form.
Morneau was one of eight Major League Baseball players who went on the disabled list last year due to concussions, USAToday reported. Also notably, the New York Mets' Jason Bay also suffered a head injury, and has recovered, the newspaper reported.
Concussions can cause permanent trouble for baseball players. Catcher Mike Metheny and nine-year veteran Major Leaguer Corey Koskie both had to retire after they never recovered fully from concussions they suffered in 2006, the newspaper reported.
