Twinkies Are Coming Back; Hostess To Reopen Schiller Park Bakery, 3 Others
SCHILLER PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- Twinkies, Ho-Hos and Ding Dongs are coming back to the store shelves.
WBBM Newsradio's Dave Berner reports Hostess Brands LLC said it plans to reopen four bakeries over the next two-and-a-half months, but not everything will be the same.
When the company opens bakeries in northwest suburban Schiller Park, Indianapolis, Georgia, and Kansas, union workers will not be making the iconic snack cakes and other Hostess treats.
The bakeries could begin hiring new workers in the next few weeks. Overall, approximately 15,000 workers will be hired, and Hostess snacks could be back in stores this summer.
Last month, Apollo Global Management, LLC, and Metropoulos & Co. bought the bankrupt Hostess Brands, Inc., for $410 million, and renamed it Hostess Brands LLC.
Hostess had shut down in November, closing its bakeries as it entered bankruptcy, prompting a rush of customers to stores nationwide to stock up on their favorite fatty, sugary snacks before they were gone.
