2 Dead, 6 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were killed and at least six other people were wounded in shootings Tuesday across Chicago.
One man was killed and another was critically wounded in a shooting at 4:37 p.m. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.
The men, ages 19 and 24, were traveling in a vehicle in the 900 block of West Garfield when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, according to Chicago Police.
The 24-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the death, but did not release the man's name pending notification of family.
The younger man was also taken to Stroger with a gunshot wound to the back, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
Tuesday morning, a 27-year-old man was found shot to death in the South Side Brainerd neighborhood.
Officers responding to a call of a person shot about 6 a.m. in the 9000 block of South Aberdeen discovered Pierre Island on the ground, authorities said.
Island, of the 2400 block of West 60th Street, had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the medical examiner's office.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 9:40 p.m. in the University Village neighborhood on the Near West Side.
A 23-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his right ankle about 9:40 p.m. in the 1000 block of West 14th Street, police said. His condition and hospital information were not immediately known.
About 10 minutes earlier, a 33-year-old man was shot in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. He was walking in the 2400 block of West 34th Place about 9:30 p.m. when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the right leg, police said. A friend drove him to Stroger Hospital, where the man's condition was stabilized. A police source said he is a documented gang member.
Earlier Tuesday evening, a man was shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood. The 23-year-old was outside of a home in the 4700 block of West Huron about 8:20 p.m. when someone walked up and shot him in the knee, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
A woman was wounded in what may have been a domestic-related shooting about 4:15 p.m. in the South Side Englewood neighborhood. The 34-year-old was shot in the left shoulder in the 5900 block of South Loomis, police said. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was stabilized. As of early Wednesday, someone was being questioned in connection with the shooting.
Tuesday's first shooting happened about 12:45 a.m. in the South Side Park Manor neighborhood. A 28-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 6900 block of South Vernon when someone came out of a gangway nearby and opened fire, police said. The man suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.
