Trump Tower Resident Arrested For ID Theft Scheme
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Do you know this man? He might know you.
Dimitar Vangelov, a 27-year-old Bulgarian, has been charged with felony identity theft. CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports Vangelov was arrested Monday in unit 44 B at the Trump Tower, a $3,500-a-month four-room unit at the ritzy skyscraper.
Court documents say he drives a Mercedes-Benz 500-Series, but has no recordable income. He also was in possession of eight credit, debit or gift cards with his name and someone else's bank information, court records show.
The Illinois Attorney General's office said in a court filing that, "The people now have evidence that the defendant was involved in a comprehensive identity theft and computer fraud scheme involving over 300 victims."
He might not be the only perpetrator in the scheme Officials claim he pulled in tens of thousands of dollars in profit from his scheme.
Asked how many others might be involved in the scheme or who his victims were, Attorney General's office spokeswoman Maura Possley would only say "the case is ongoing."
Vangelov has been ordered held on $25,000 bond. His defense attorney did not return a call for comment.
