Trucks Crowd I-80/94 Corridor
GARY, Ind. (CBS) -- Interstate 80/94 in Northwest Indiana is a mess, as trucks begin moving again now that the blizzard has cleared the area.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports I-80/94, which is the busiest interstate corridor for travel, was incredibly busy Thursday morning. Many of the over-the-road truck drivers had been caught up in the blizzard and its aftermath all the way from the East Coast to the heartland of the country.
Now they are trying to squeeze through a snow-filled, icy corridor between Illinois and Indiana, as they try to get back to their destinations.
Many of the trucks had been laid up for as much as three days.
If you're traveling out of state by way of I-80/94, Habermehl reminds you that thousands of trucks, including semi-tractor trailers, tankers and flatbeds are hauling all sorts of the nation's commodities down the I-80/94.
Gary, Ind., authorities had to set up flow control at Burr Street just a little bit north of 80/94, where truckers are packing a popular truck stop trying to get diesel fuel.
