Truck Gets Caught Under Live Power Line On Armitage Avenue
UPDATED 08/10/11 1:37 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Busy and fashionable Armitage Avenue was struck with a dangerous sight Wednesday morning, when a live power line fell on a truck under the 'L' tracks and left it trapped inside.
The power line came down on the truck just before noon under the Red-Brown-Purple Line tracks the 900 block of West Armitage Avenue, fire officials said.
Fire Department crews got the driver out of the truck about 50 minutes after the lines fell on top of it, , according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.
Commonwealth Edison crews were called and they shut off the power to the line before the man could be taken from the truck, Rosado said. He was not injured in the incident.
The incident occurred just before noon under the L tracks in an alley near Armitage and Sheffield. The truck is a private recycling vehicle owned by Lakeshore Waste Services.
The busy Armitage Avenue 'L' stop is located directly above the site where the accident occurred, and Brown Line trains ran without interruption after the accident, a Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman said.
