Truck Crashes, Rolls Over On Dan Ryan
Updated 08/21/11 - 2:43 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Traffic on the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway was moving at a crawl north of 31st Street on Sunday afternoon, after a semi-trailer truck crashed and rolled over, spilling diesel fuel.
The Fire Department initiated a Level 1 Hazardous Materials response on the southbound Dan Ryan Expressway a few minutes after noon after the truck crashed and rolled over at 26th Street.
All lanes of the Dan Ryan were shut down for more than an hour after the crash, leaving traffic on the southbound Dan Ryan at a standstill and leading to delays on the inbound Kennedy, Eisenhower and Stevenson Expressways near downtown. Several drivers had gotten out of their cars while traffic was stopped.
By about 2:30 p.m., two lanes had opened to allow traffic through, but crews were still working to remove the truck from the expressway.
A Fire Department spokesperson said there were no reported injuries.
